Jack Benny's "Rochester" story in here
"Rochester Van Jones Rides High" great, great bio on "Rochester" in here. Say, I thought no black people could stay in any nice hotels or eat at any restaurants in those days? BS. Rochester went to Waukegan with Jack Benny for the filming of Benny's film, Rochester stayed in the best hotels, ate at the best restaurants, and was mobbed for autographs every where he went. The town bestowed him with the "key to the city" and honor badges for every titled position the town had! Sheriff, Special inspector, you name it. Rochester wore them proudly on his suspenders while going into Benny's hotel room for a visit, Benny said "wait a darn minute, who's home town IS this, yours or mine???" Rochester wasn't denied anything. Either way, Ive always wanted to know everything about Rochester (Benny, too, he is brilliant and I really admire him as a person) and I just found this paper, from a link I was reading on wikipedia. Glad I found it. Thank you, uploader, for providing this valuable bit of history!
